CRAZY DAY! 2:44 PM

That just sums up today pretty much. Today's been a crazy day of crazy ups and downs and blahblah.

So tomorrow I'm getting my new car yippee! I'm soooo happy. I mean not new but used but still new to me. Anyway my point is I happily went around doing my stuff, like getting ready the insurance, the garage space etc and the MVA appointment.

Then I was somehow a bit worried because I was wondering if I should still sublease this place for the extra 1 month I'm living in Baltimore before going home, cos I was just told there is no A/C!!! In summer, I will DIE. Melt and DIE. So I emailed the landlady to ask if I could extend my lease again, almost pleading this time. I emailed her a couple times before and she was adamant about not letting me extend it. But this time YIPPEE she did not just let me extend it, she let me keep my room during the extension! Before that she said even if she extends I would probably have to move to another crappy room with no kitchen and no bathroom boo.. so now YAY! Plus this kinda links back to the car in case u think I'm rambling (check above), cos if I can stay right where I am now I can just easily get garage parking and voila I don't have to leave my baby in the open the extra month I'm staying here!! YIPPEE!


But then after that high my world came crashing down when WTF I was suddenly told my presentation on Friday was moved forward till tomorrow. They tell me today at 4.30pm. SERIOUSLY SCREW THEM! I CANT GO TOMORROW! Its not just that its really last minute, I'm not done preparing yet, its also cos I need to go to the vehicle authority tomorrow to get my car title changed and get my license converted!!! OMG wtf! Now they tell me!!!!

So I was really upset and running around trying to find out exactly what went wrong but then after like many hours of negotiation it seemed like there was no way out but then heaven offered an Angel... Melek! She offered to present for me as long as I do the writeup and everything else so I can go do my stuff!!! OMG I love her and I owe her coffee. And from now on she's one of my diehard buddies I can go through monsters and demons for. So is Renata wahaha.

And then after that high I got home and there was a parcel waiting for me. Curious, I went to the front desk to pick it up and got home excitedly to unwrap it. Guess what! Its TULIPS!!!! My favourite flower! In a vase, waiting to bloom! I just fed it flower food and water and hopefully it will bloom in a couple days! Then I will upload the pics I took. Now its still not blooming heehee. Aww baby thank you! For making my day after its been heaven and hell and now heaven back again!

Are such expensive things to have. From the time I made up my mind to get that car, I've had to make trips to the parking office and call up insurance companies to get the cheapest quote etc. Pay for parking pay for insurance pay for gas pay for mechanic. I am so broke sob..

Fulfilling weekend 12:54 PM

Walked to Fells Point for dinner on beautiful Friday evening. I keep forgetting to eat lunch these days bad bad. Walked home after dinner. Beautiful day, sunset at 8pm! Yay! Shopped some, bought stuff for people at home. Fells point look really amazingly gorgeous in summer I find. No its summer yet but it does feel like it is!

And then on Saturday, went to look at this car I fancy. I keep finding better cars to look at and also slightly more expensive but I managed to negotiate it down little. Woohoo. But this time I will wait till I actually get the car and take some pictures before I show mah baby to u guys! Wednesday is the day. Keep your eyes peeled.

After carshopping, we went food shopping, and alcohol shopping. Bought some beer, hopefully it will help me sleep better. Met Renata's pop and mom who are in town. Got more beer to drink. Yahahaha. Didn't get to sleep earlier tho. Damn. Webcammed with the people at home. A little too long.

Sunday is chores day. Kinda really worried about work in school. Don't wanna get kicked out. So trying to study little by little. Hopefully lab goes easy on me.

P.S. I don't have swine flu. I just have a mild cold. For those who are worried. :)

A Parable for Graduate Students 7:26 PM

Scene: It's a fine sunny day in the forest, and a rabbit is sitting outside
his burrow, tippy-tapping on his typewriter.

Along comes a fox, out for a walk.

Fox: "What are you working on?"

Rabbit: "My thesis."

Fox: "Hmmm. What's it about?"

Rabbit: "Oh, I'm writing about how rabbits eat foxes."
(incredulous pause)

Fox: "That's ridiculous! Any fool knows that rabbits don't eat foxes."

Rabbit: "Sure they do, and I can prove it. Come with me."

They both disappear into the rabbit's burrow. After a few minutes, the
rabbit returns, alone, to his typewriter and resumes typing.

Soon, a wolf comes along and stops to watch the hardworking rabbit.

Wolf: "What's that you're writing?"

Rabbit: "I'm doing a thesis on how rabbits eat wolves."
(loud guffaws)

Wolf: "You don't expect to get such rubbish published, do you?"

Rabbit: "No problem. Do you want to see why?"

The rabbit and the wolf go into the burrow, and again the rabbit
returns by himself, after a few minutes, and goes back to typing.

Scene: Inside the rabbit's burrow. In one corner, there is a pile of fox
bones.  In another corner, a pile of wolf bones. On the other side of the
room, a huge lion is belching and picking his teeth.

  (The End)

Moral:
   It doesn't matter what you choose for a thesis subject.
   It doesn't matter what you use for data.
   What does matter is who you have for a thesis advisor.

Am I cursed or what? 9:30 PM

This is the SECOND time a car I was eyeing, close to buying, slipped out of my hands just like that. And every time the car gets a little CLOSER to me. This time I even paid a deposit on the car. But then the seller decided to keep the car FML. My deposit was returned of course, by the very honest FBI. However I can't help feeling very deflated. For about 1 hour.

And then after that I feel happy again. Cos its car-shopping time again! Wahaha I'm just too optimistic to stay depressed for long. Duno if thats a curse or a blessing. But the more I think about it the more it seems like its God's will. I'm not Christian, my god is a different god. But they help me just the same. Anyway my point is, everytime I think of getting a car, after I set up an appointment to view the car or whatever, or even after paying a deposit, and I come back and think about it, I will always have a nagging feeling that the car just doesn't seem right for me. And because most of the sellers are in a hurry to get rid of it (usually in need of money thats why the prices are cheaper), I feel like I'm pushed to make a decision quick. Which I don't like cos I like to have time to think about stuff like that.

So now, I feel like I'm more in control. I feel like I have learned a lot about what to look out for when buying a car and the procedures etc etc for transfer of ownership and inspecting a car and how well a car had been maintained how long it can last. So since I really don't wanna get a new car in a place like Baltimore, these knowledge will serve me well in the future purchase and maintenance of a car! Hehe. Keep your eyes peeled for more good news!

Honda civic coupe! 4:17 PM

I finally got my own car baby!!! YAY! Even though my parents are paying for part of it. Wahaha. Today Kailee and Xiaoyang came with me to check out the car+shop since we were supposed to meet the guy at the mall. Test drove the car. Not very used to it yet cos it seems a little powerful. Hmm.. Maybe its a sports car? *delusional*

Anyway it was a really good price cos this guy selling it had 8 cars or something in his family and he recently bought another one. Plus he's getting married. When I spoke to him over the phone I expected him to be some young professional (I didn't know about the 8 cars then). But when I met him he turned out to be a beefy 40-ish or 50-ish guy. His biceps were larger than my entire head!!! And apparently he just bought his daughter a new car as well cos she was graduating from high school or something. So anyway good thing Xiaoyang came along else I'd be really intimidated.. though he's really nice. But his sheer size...

And after driving the car, we really think it was a good deal so I decided to pay him a deposit and settle the admin stuff on Monday! And here comes the coolest part.. when we looked a little hesitant about the payment, his wife got him over and whispered stuff to him and he came back and said, "Just to give you guys more assurance, I'm a federal agent. I work for the government." And proceeded to flash his badge to us. OMG!!! The first time I've seen the FBI here!! WAH Xiaoyang and I were awed. The light reflected off his badge blinded our eyes. When we go back on Monday maybe we're gonna make him take a pic with his badge with us. Wahaha. FOB us.

But then again, I probably won't wanna see that badge flashed to me under any other circumstances.... hmm.. wahaha

Cold Turkey 7:56 PM

I had been having irregular periods since I came here and started classes. I thought it was the stress. Then one day, before a particularly stressful exam, I stayed up all night to study, drinking tons of coffee to keep me awake. The day after, the exam was fine. But suddenly I found myself bleeding heavily, it was so freakin scary. Plus it made me anemic so I was feeling faint all the time.

Then I was told that it could be the caffeine thats doing that to me! Since I consume crazy huge amounts of caffeine, coffee and soda and tea day after day. So I decided.. ok lets try this caffeine cold turkey. I started drinking a mix of 50-50 caffeinated and decaf coffee, in smaller amounts, and just 1 soda a day. Previously I drink 2 cups of coffee sometimes 3.. and 1 soda or 2 each day. And the next few days I was so tired I couldn't get through any class without falling asleep. But then after the initial few days, I started feeling better.

Now its more than 1 week since I started my caffeine cold turkey. I am feeling so good and energetic each day! It could also be the spring weather that is doing this to me. I feel so good I take the stairs up instead of waiting for the elevator (up 9 floors) and I can feel a bounce in my steps. Slave to caffeine no more! Most importantly, I am healthier than ever. No more amnesia, no more aches here and there, no more nothing! Except feeling fat... :S

Whenever I feel like buying a cup of coffee, I get hot chocolate instead. I know its also caffeinated.. but its less addictive and there's much less caffeine in it. YAY! Cheers to a healthy lifestyle and a healthy Kah Suan!

Cherry blossoms in DC + smattering of other pics 1:57 PM

Hola! I know its been some time since I posted.. but seriously, you expect me to sit beside the computer and upload pictures while the glorious sunshine awaits outside? No way!!! (I apologize for the inconsistencies in sizes of the pics cos some I uploaded some I took from Facebook hehe).

Just so you know how it looks like every day now (almost), from 7am to 8pm, 13 hours a day. View from my apartment.

Time to bring out the skirts and shorts! Not all days, but most days!

And finally, on Saturday, after finishing the 2 exams and presentation, we decided woohoo! Time to catch the cherry blossoms in DC! Mafia gang, Kihyuck and Hy in back seat.

We met Renata's friend Emily in the DC suburb Silver Spring and took the metro into town. And voila! There you go. We hit the cherry blossoms stretch!

Beautiful day... check out the view of the Jefferson Memorial. It wasn't like this the whole day. When we first started the day, it was rainy and gloomy and cold and we went inside the cafeteria in a museum and didn't wanna go out. But later on the sun came out and stayed out!

Many say she's invincible. But that's not true. Bring a DURIAN in front of her, and she will ditch her sword and raise the white flag. She's still desperately trying to master the 闭气功 so she can overcome this weakness.

She now resides in a tiny little room in a tiny little building in a tiny little university/hospital in the tiny little city of Baltimore, studying her tiny little life away in the hopes of getting some Permanent Head Damage.
